Local Style Crush: Sarah Phillips
July 28, 2015
In this week's local style crush, we are featuing Sarah of the lovely blog Fifity Two Thursdays! We can't get enough of Sarah's style, check out the Q&A we recently did with her below!
1. How would you define your personal style?
It's hard to define my personal style because it changes daily! Most days I am running around in my fitness gear but when I get dressed up for meetings or events, I am usually wearing well tailored denim and a pair of ridiculously high heels. I would say I tend to lean toward clothing that is refined but also has a bit of edge to it. I am also really digging the 70s trend right now, so I am really playing up the bellbottoms and suede. After years of wasting my money on cheap/trendy clothing, I tend to save up for staples that I know I will wear for years to come.
2. What/Who influences your style?
So many things influence my personal style. Fashion blogs, celebrities, travel, magazines, movies, the list really goes on and on. My style icons currently are: Olivia Palermo, Kate Hudson, Jacey Duprie of Damsel in Dior and Mary Seng of Happily Grey. But mostly I pull my inspiration from the new cultures I explore on my trips around the world. It's fun to see how things change everywhere you go, whether it be in the food the locals are eating or the clothes they are wearing, I love emerging myself in it all.
3, How did you find out about Reddz Trading and what is that you like most about our boutique?
Reddz was recommended to me a few years ago by my blog partner, Michelle. She had been going to Reddz for years and told me it was a great spot to exchange your old clothing for $$. Since I started selling my clothes to Reddz, I don't think I have left the store empty handed yet. I always find an amazing pair of designer shoes or a dress that fits like a glove that I just can't go home with out.
4. What are your tips for putting together a great outfit?
When I put together my outfits, I really take the occasion I am dressing for into play. We live in a pretty conservative city, so Iake sure that I am appropriately dressed before I leave the house. As much as I like taking risks, I also like to feel 100% confident in what I am wearing before I leave the house. I think it really shows on your face and the attitude you exude, so taking a few extra minutes to get is right is a.o.k in my book!

5. How does Washington DC inspire your day-to-day style?
I recently joined a Creative Collective space on M Street in Georgetown and ever since I started walking those cobblestone streets daily, it changed my entire opinion on heels. Rarely would you ever catch me in a flat shoe; day or night I would be in some sort of heel but after walking from the parking garage to the office on my first day of work, my entire outlook changed. Tripping and falling doesn't look good on anyone, so I quickly added some cute flats to my shoe game and then would tote my heels around if I needed to change into them for an event after work. But most of all I have found that DC is a city that is changing in so many ways. Food, fashion, fitness - our city is now on the map for it all. It is exciting to see how far we have come over the past years and and I can't wait to see where we will be a few years from now. DC isn't the buttoned up city that it once was!
